CVS/Caremark Minute Clinics included in
County Health Plan network
Beginning
Jan. 1, 2010, the County Health Plan is waiving
the copay for members who seek treatment at any
Convenience Care Clinic participating in the
CIGNA Open Access Plus network. The most common
convenience care clinic in North Carolina is the
CVS Caremark Minute Clinic. These clinics are
located in participating CVS Stores with
services available to treat non-emergency health
issues. The staff includes board-certified
family nurse practitioners and physician
assistants. The practitioners are able to
screen, diagnose, prescribe, treat and monitor
the health of your employees. The $0 copay
includes the visit and any lab work performed at
the visit. These clinics are open seven days a
week, including evenings. Appointments are not
necessary, and the visits usually last
approximately 15 minutes.
According to a September 2009 study comparing
costs and quality of care at retail clinics with
other medical settings, the average cost of care
for the Minute Clinic is $110 as compared to
$166 for a primary care physician, $156 for
urgent care and $570 for an emergency room. This
study rated high in overall satisfaction for the
quality of care provided by Minute Clinics. By
utilizing a Minute Clinic, employees have the
added benefit of being able to receive their
treatment quickly, instead of waiting for hours
in a doctor’s office or at the emergency room.
Treatments and services include, but are not
limited to; minor illness and injury exams such
as allergy symptoms, body aches, cough, earache,
burns, deer tick bites, acne, athlete’s foot,
minor infections, poison ivy, sprains, blisters,
to name a few. Vaccinations and
wellness/preventive services are also available.
