County managers honored for walking on the
job
In January, NCACC Executive
Director David F. Thompson challenged managers
of counties participating in the County Health
Plan to get in step with the CHP’s 10,000 Steps
a Day wellness initiative. Managers were
challenged to walk as many steps as possible
within a 32-day period. The top five
participants would receive prizes and would be
honored at their county’s Board of Commissioners
meeting.
Montgomery County Manager
Lance Metzler logged the most steps, while
Anson's Andy Lucas, Martin’s Russell Overman,
Northampton’s Wayne Jenkins and Gates’ Tim
Russell rounded out the top five. Collectively,
these managers walked 1,134,978 steps.
“As a manager, staying in
touch with department heads and citizens is
important especially during budget season, and
these managers truly demonstrated their devotion
to good health and acted as role models for
their employees,” Thompson said.
The managers were presented
with their prizes and a certificate during the
month of March. An upcoming issue of CountyLines
will include profiles of the winners.
The 10,000 Steps a Day
program is the first initiative of the County
Lifestyles wellness program. As a behavioral
lifestyle change program, County Lifestyles is
designed to retool how employees view an
exercise program.
